Wine culture – wine production – wine online sale – Sutto

A wealth of experience, passion and tradition.

The lands of San Lorenzetto, in the heart of the ancient centuriazione opitergina (the Opitergium area according to the roman land division), exactly behind Venice, knew the culture of the vine in Roman times, over two thousand years ago, and the generations who lived here over the centuries have always maintained a deep and wise love for vines and wines, given that the products of this land have an important historical and cultural identity, being the result of a combination of soil, climate, traditions, culture and an intelligent production.

In the Middle Ages, after the barbarian invasions, the monks of St. Benedict here first built their monastery and then relaunched the cultivation of vines, which continued when the land passed to the Canons of San Salvatore in Venice and to the Episcopal Curia of Ceneda.

Since the lands of San Lorenzetto were considered among the most suitable for wine production in the area since ancient times, each generation safeguarded such a legacy and brought its cultural and practical contribution enriched by the advice of the most prepared experts and, in recent years, by the Experimental Institute for Viticulture in Conegliano, one of the most important cultural centers of the wine world. In the centuries of the Serenissima Republic, there stood the vineyards of the Doges, where they produced those great wines, both white and red, in order to bring them to the parties at the Palazzo Ducale and to the palaces on the Grand Canal in Venice.

The Raboso wine, in particular, was part of the ships’ stocks because it was the only wine to be preserved perfectly healthy in the sea.

The current production is rooted in a rich and fascinating history and the quality of Sutto wines testifies the importance of the land and of the winemaker’s wine culture.
