The company is located in the heart of the ancient centuriazione opitergina (Opitergium in latin, Oderzo in italian),a roman system to devide lands, where the vine has been cultivated for over two millennia. Later, in the long centuries of the Middle Ages, viticulture in this area was developed by the monks of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Lorenzetto, of which significant findings can be visited, and then by the Canons of San Salvatore in Venice, who remained there until 1700 d.c.
The lands of San Lorenzetto then passed from the venetian Canons to the Episcopal Curia of Ceneda and finally to the Sutto family during the ‘30s of last century.
Scholars defined this area as the best wine land of the Po Valley: actually the land is mainly loamy with a caranto layer underneath, namely a mixture of earth and dolomite rock deposited over the centuries thanks to many overflows of the Piave river. Thanks to such soil’s characteristics and to the proximity of the sea, vines found ideal climatic conditions for producing wines of great excellence.
